The Becket Land Trust is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization which owns and operates the Historic Quarry and Forest.

It was founded by a group of citizens concerned about protecting the Town of Becket's rural character, natural resources and ecologically sensitive areas.

The Historic Quarry and Forest was the result of an extraordinary community fund-raising campaign to save a 300+ acre parcel of primarily wooded land from industrial development. To prevent detrimental impact on the site and the community, local citizens donated money to enable the Becket Land Trust to purchase the property and open the site to the public for recreational enjoyment.

We are involved with the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries & Wildlife in setting up a New England Cottontail habitat management area on the forest site - Read all about it. Read about the progress and project.

Thanks to a wonderful group of volunteers, all trails have been cleared and reblazed. We invite you to visit the quarry and hike the trails.

See our calendar for schedule of activities for 2017.

We need you!

On Saturday April 29, from 9AM to noon, there will be a volunteer work day at the Becket Land Trust's Historic Quarry property.  We will be picking up trash, and removing fallen branches from the hiking trails.

Bring loppers, clippers, hand saws, rakes, leaf blowers, work gloves, and drinking water.

Three hours of volunteer work time will earn you a free parking pass for the summer 2017 season.

We hope to see you there.

The Land Trust Board has issued this statement and has posted this at the Trust's Historic Quarry and Forest parking area:

This property, open to the public for the over 15 years has seen a recent increase in unlawful behavior including littering, vandalism, drunkenness and animal cruelty. In response to this, the Trust’s Board of Directors has taken the following steps:

  • We are collecting a parking fee of $10 per car per day.
  • Parking along the roads abutting the Land Trust property is not permitted and cars parked on the roads will be ticketed and towed by the Becket Police Department.
  • There is a private security officer on duty during the hours the property is open to the public.
  • The officer will collect the parking fees and enforce the following rules:
    • No diving
    • No fires
    • No cooler
    • No alcohol
    • Remove your trash
